Why volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House?
The Ronald McDonald House is more than just an alternative to a hotel when families need to travel for the care of their child. Itās a better option. And one of the main reasons are our caring House volunteers. The most important things our family of volunteers provide are understanding and a friendly smile.
The Volunteer Experience
While at the Ronald McDonald House, you might perform a wide range of tasks, including helping with guest family requests, greeting guests at the front desk and on the phone, helping in the kitchen, folding laundry ā anything that might help families directly or help our staff. Do you have a special skill? Be sure to let us know.
You might be a good fit to volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House if you:
- Are at least 16 years old
- Can commit to at least one 3-hour shift per week for at least the next six months
- Can pass a criminal background check
- If this doesnāt describe you, try one of our other opportunities, or take the quiz!

I started at the House as a volunteer, and it feels surreal to transition to full-time staff as the Volunteer Coordinator. The dedication and love Iāve seen from volunteers since starting my role has been amazing ā both at the Ronald McDonald House and in the Ronald McDonald Family Rooms. I feel humbled and excited to be leading such a committed and dynamic group of volunteers.
According to a UC Berkeley study, volunteers were 44% more likely to have a longer lifespan, as compared with those who do not volunteer
āI know how impactful it was when my mom stayed here and that I could give back in simple ways. Like cleaning up after dinner or translating for Spanish speakers. Theyāre small things but make a big difference.ā
- Jullisa Sanchez, 30
āIāve volunteered here this long because it gives me a sense of purpose. I know Iām making a difference.ā
- Judy Goddard, 85volunteer since 1988
āItās about the mission and making an impact. If I can, Iāll keep volunteering at the House wherever I am.ā
- Liam Savir-Baruch, 17
