House volunteers are front-and-center in providing support for families needing to stay close to the hospital overnight. Duties include keeping the house clean and organized, but also responding to our guests when called upon. Because this is an important and sensitive responsibility, all prospective volunteers must complete and submit a volunteer application and meet with the program manager for a House tour.
All applicants must be at least 18.
RMHC of Southern Arizona operates two Ronald McDonald Family Room programs (RMFR). Both special spaces are near the neonatal intensive care unit, providing a much-needed respite for families while staying close to their child.
The volunteer’s role is crucial to maintaining the friendly, caring atmosphere of the RMFR, while upholding all RMFR and hospital policies. Given the highly sensitive environment, all prospective volunteers must complete and submit a volunteer application and meet additional hospital volunteer criteria.

Members of the Red Shoe Society are leaders in the Tucson and Southern Arizona communities, making a difference in the lives of families with seriously ill children. Together they create opportunities to develop professionally and network with other community leaders, all while volunteering and raising funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern Arizona.
We are so happy to welcome our volunteer chefs back to the Ronald McDonald House, and our families will appreciate some home cooked meals!
If you have questions about the Chef for a Day program, please email Mikay Wright at mwright@rmhctucson.org.
Participation Requirements:
There is no longer a vaccination requirement for Chef for a Day volunteers. With this in mind, all volunteers must be completely illness/symptom free (cold, flu, fever, stomach virus, etc.) for at least 14 days prior to volunteering. Even if you think it’s just allergies, to ensure the safety of our guest families, please take an at-home COVID test to confirm.
Chef for a Day groups may include a maximum of twelve (12) volunteers. Everyone who comes with your group will count toward this total and must be there to actively participate. This is a group activity, so if you are in need of some sous chefs, you might consider your family, friends, business, or community circles. RMHC cannot pair individuals with already established groups.
Chef for a Day volunteers must be at least 8 years old and actively participate in cooking and serving the entire time. All children must be supervised at all times.
Middle school and high school groups, must be accompanied by a teacher or parent chaperone for their entire visit.
When families leave the Ronald McDonald House, they’re often heading home to an empty fridge.
Making a grocery list or preparing dinner is the last thing on a parent’s mind. That’s why we’ve launched our new House to Home program which provides homeward-bound families with everything they need to settle in, including oven-ready frozen casseroles.
You can help us by assembling casseroles in our Ronald McDonald House kitchen. It’s a great way to involve your team or family in a quick mid-day volunteer project. You bring the ingredients; we have all the kitchen tools and appliances you might need!
If you have questions about the House to Home program, please email Steffanie Wood at swood@rmhctucson.org.
Thank you for your interest in donating supplies to Ronald McDonald House Charities! Please download the Wish List to learn what we are able to accept at this time.

Because we rely on our community to help us raise money to support our mission, one of the ways to help is to organize a community fundraiser. If you or your organization would like to organize a fundraiser to benefit the families and children who stay at the Ronald McDonald House, please click on this welcome letter to get more details.
