On the Road Again

6.10.20

On Monday, June 1, the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile hit the road for the first time in over two months. Its first stop? Benson, Arizona.

For many Cochise County families, the closest dental office can be more than 45 minutes away. These families rely on the Care Mobile for checkups, cleanings, and other procedures.

One of these families is a mom with eight kids. She was the first in line when the van pulled into Benson. During the pandemic, two of her kids developed cavities. She was eager to get them back in to see their regular dentist. Both kids are scheduled for fillings next week, saving the family several hours-long trips for emergency care.

Like all dental services, the Care Mobile is taking necessary precautions to ensure their patients stay safe. Only one chaperone is allowed at a time and patients are screened before their appointment. Under this new normal, the Care Mobile serves about eight patients a day.

“For our patients, it’s reassuring that we’re not flooding our clinic with families,” says Dr. Brianna Hillier, Director of Dental Services. The dental staff also enjoys reconnecting with their patients. “Everyone is excited to get back into the swing of things.”
